Business Coach in New Jersey

For owners whose business stalls the moment they step back. Warren Zysman finds the #1 bottleneck holding your company back — and builds the fix with you, not to you.

Who this is for

If you run a general contracting firm in New Jersey doing $2M–$10M a year, this page is written for you first. You are likely the estimator, the senior project manager, the collections department, and the person every field problem lands on. The work gets done — but it gets done through you, and everybody in the company knows it.

The same pattern shows up in the other owners I coach. Small business owners whose companies have outgrown the way they started — more people, more jobs, more money moving, and still one person holding it together. And franchise owners who bought a proven business and found out the training covered the brand standards, not how to run the operation day to day.

Different trades, same problem. The business depends on the owner for everything important, and that dependence is what caps the growth, the profit, and the owner’s life outside of work.

The problem is a bottleneck, not effort

Owners in this spot are not short on work ethic. Most are working harder than anyone they employ. The revenue is coming in. The problem is what happens to it.

Margins fade between the bid and the final invoice. Cash flow is unpredictable even in busy months. Good people wait for the owner’s answer instead of deciding. Every estimate, every change order, every angry customer call routes back to one desk. And because the owner is buried in the day-to-day, nobody is working on the business itself — pricing, systems, the team, the next level.

That is a bottleneck: one point in the business where everything slows down, piles up, or leaks. Until you find the real one — and it is usually not the one you think you have — every fix you try treats a symptom. More revenue will not fix it. A new hire will not fix it. Working weekends will definitely not fix it.

The first job is naming the one bottleneck that matters most. The second is building the fix so it stays fixed after the coaching ends.

How Warren works

Start by naming it. Take the free Bottleneck Quiz at warrenzysman.com/bottleneck-quiz/ — it is built from the patterns I see in owner-led companies, and most owners recognize their business in the result. If you would rather talk it through, book a free Clarity Call. Either way, you start with the problem named plainly.

Then diagnose before prescribing. When an owner needs the full picture, the next step is a deep dive into the business — financials, operations, cash flow, team, and systems — to confirm where the bottleneck actually sits and what it is costing. No binder of generic advice. The output is a prioritized plan: this first, this second, this can wait.

Then build the fix. The work is practical — dashboards you can read in five minutes, workflows that do not depend on your memory, scorecards that show whether the fix is holding. One bottleneck at a time, in the right order, until the business runs on systems instead of on you.

I coach owner-to-owner. You will get straight answers from someone who has sat in your seat, not theory from someone who has only read about it.

The offers

Clarity Call — free. A 60-minute conversation about where your business stands and what is actually holding it back. No pitch, no pressure. You leave knowing what your #1 bottleneck is and what the first fix looks like. Book one here: calendly.com/warren-warrenzysman/intro-call

90-Day Business X-Ray — $7,500. A 90-day diagnostic engagement: 12 weekly working sessions and 2 intensive deep dives into your financials, operations, cash flow, team, and systems. We find the single biggest bottleneck, build the dashboards, workflows, and scorecards to fix it, and at the end you hold a clear, written stabilization plan — whether you execute it on your own or keep working with me.

Local to National Partner — $4,000/mo. A six-month growth program for owners whose local operation is stable and who are ready to scale beyond it. This is the step after the X-Ray: the systems are in, and now the business grows on purpose instead of by accident.

Owner-to-Owner Mentorship — $2,000/mo. Ongoing counsel for owners who want an experienced operator in their corner month to month — someone to pressure-test decisions, read the numbers with them, and keep the business moving without sliding back into old patterns.

Not sure which door fits? That is what the Bottleneck Quiz and the Clarity Call are for. Start there.

Why Warren

I grew up in my family’s construction business here in New Jersey. My first job was sweeping floors. I worked my way up to running jobs, and over 30-plus years I built companies, made just about every mistake an owner can make, and learned the expensive way what actually makes a business work — including rebuilding after things fell apart.

I am based in Fair Lawn, in Bergen County, and Warren Z. Business Strategies, LLC is a New Jersey business coaching a New Jersey owner’s reality: our labor market, our permitting, our customers, our winters. Most of my examples come from construction because that is where I grew up, but the problems I solve are owner problems, and they are the same in every trade.

I am not a guru and I do not sell motivation. I find the bottleneck and build the fix. One client put it this way:

“Best mentor I’ve had thus far!” — Love, a coaching client
